About Lombok

Lombok is an island located in the West Nusa Tenggara province in Indonesia, which is located between the island of Bali and Sumbawa. Its capital, Mataram, is quite similar regarding population to Denpassar, the main city of its neighbour island Bali, with who shares some of its cultural heritage. The island of Lombok is surrounded by the Gili islands, a three island archipelago located in the northwest coast of Lombok, which only can be accessed by boat. Lombok features for its unique beaches, especially Mawun Beach, Selong Belanak and Tanjung Aan, and attractions, such as the Mount Rinjani, the second largest volcano in Indonesia. Also, the cities of Senggigi and Kuta are worth to see, along with its capital, Mataram. Lombok has mosques along with the temples of the Balinese people who inhabit the island. Lombok locals, the Sasak people, are around the 85% of the total population and it is quite interesting to experience some of the main features of the Sasak culture like food, music and handicraft.
